The NBCC Foundation, an affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), not too long ago selected Michael S. Jones of Searcy, Arkansas, for the National Board for Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship Program (NBCC MFP). As an NBCC MFP Fellow, Mr. Jones will obtain funding and instruction to assistance his education and facilitate his service to underserved minority populations.

The NBCC MFP is created feasible by a grant awarded to NBCC by the Substance Abuse and Mental Overall health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in August 2012. The Foundation is contracted by NBCC to administer the NBCC MFP, as properly as coaching and collaboration activities that will be open to all National Certified Counselors. The goal of the plan is to strengthen the infrastructure that engages diverse individuals in counseling and increases the number of professional counselors offering effective, culturally competent services to underserved populations.

The NBCC MFP has distributed $ 20,000 education awards to Mr. Jones and the 23 other doctoral-level counseling students chosen to receive the fellowship award. Michael Jones is a graduate of Freed Hardeman University, Ashland Theological Seminary and Harding University. He is currently enrolled at Regent University, exactly where he is pursuing a doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision. Mr. Jones has been a psychotherapist for 11 years and has encounter in substance abuse counseling, counselor education, clinical supervision and neighborhood-based mental health.
