Kimberly Jenkins-Richardson Awarded Fellowship from NBCC and Affiliates

The NBCC Foundation, an affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), not too long ago selected Kimberly P. Jenkins-Richardson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the National Board for Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship Program (NBCC MFP). As an NBCC MFP Fellow, Ms. Jenkins-Richardson will obtain funding and instruction to help her education and facilitate her service to underserved minority populations.

The NBCC MFP is made possible by a grant awarded to NBCC by the Substance Abuse and Mental Wellness Solutions Administration (SAMHSA) in August 2012. The Foundation is contracted by NBCC to administer the NBCC MFP, as well as training and collaboration activities that will be open to all National Certified Counselors. The aim of the system is to strengthen the infrastructure that engages diverse folks in counseling and increases the number of expert counselors offering powerful, culturally competent services to underserved populations.

The NBCC MFP has distributed $ 20,000 education awards to Ms. Jenkins-Richardson and the 23 other doctoral-level counseling students selected to obtain the fellowship award. Kimberly Jenkins-Richardson is both a student and graduate of the University of Alabama, where she has been accepted into the counselor education and supervision system. She is also a graduate of Jacksonville State University. Ms. Jenkins-Richardson is employed by the University of Alabama Counseling Center as a staff therapist and has encounter operating in community mental wellness, and public and private substance abuse agencies. As an NBCC MFP Fellow, she hopes to aid students of minority and particular populations turn into more receptive to mental overall health solutions and diversify the counseling profession via her function as a faculty member.
