The NBCC Foundation, an affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), not too long ago chosen Beverly R. Sargent of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, for the National Board for Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship Program (NBCC MFP). As an NBCC MFP Fellow, Ms. Sargent will acquire funding and training to assistance her education and facilitate her service to underserved minority populations.

The NBCC MFP is created attainable by a grant awarded to NBCC by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Solutions Administration (SAMHSA) in August 2012. The Foundation is contracted by NBCC to administer the NBCC MFP, as nicely as instruction and collaboration activities that will be open to all National Certified Counselors. The purpose of the plan is to strengthen the infrastructure that engages diverse men and women in counseling and increases the quantity of professional counselors providing successful, culturally competent solutions to underserved populations.

The NBCC MFP has distributed $ 20,000 education awards to Ms. Sargent and the 23 other doctoral-level counseling students selected to get the fellowship award. Beverly Sargent is a graduate of Minot State University and Loyola College, exactly where she is pursuing a doctoral degree in counseling education and supervision. She was lately named executive director of the District Heights Family & Youth Services Center. She is a member of the international counseling honor society Chi Sigma Iota, the American Counseling Association, the Association of Death Education and Counseling, and the Maryland Association for Counseling and Development. She retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2003. As an NBCC MFP Fellow, she hopes to expand and enrich her service by way of expert presentations, qualitative and quantitative research, and publications.
