Angelica Tello Awarded Fellowship from NBCC and Affiliates

The NBCC Foundation, an affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), recently chosen Angelica M. Tello of San Antonio, Texas, for the National Board for Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship Plan (NBCC MFP). As an NBCC MFP Fellow, Ms. Tello will acquire funding and coaching to help her education and facilitate her service to underserved minority populations.

The NBCC MFP is produced feasible by a grant awarded to NBCC by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in August 2012. The Foundation is contracted by NBCC to administer the NBCC MFP, as effectively as coaching and collaboration activities that will be open to all National Certified Counselors. The objective of the program is to strengthen the infrastructure that engages diverse people in counseling and increases the number of professional counselors supplying effective, culturally competent solutions to underserved populations.

The NBCC MFP has distributed $ 20,000 education awards to Ms. Tello and the 23 other doctoral-level counseling students chosen to get the fellowship award. Angelica Tello is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she is pursuing a doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision. Her counseling encounter contains working with college students at public 4-year institutions and functioning in agencies serving young children and adolescents from low-income communities. Tellos aim as an NBCC MFP Fellow is to assistance counselors-in-education as they create an understanding of the mental overall health problems that face minority and low-income communities.
